Kurt Vonnegut was a hero of my youth(as you will know from a previous blog post ). His science fiction particularly thrilled and delighted me. The stories themselves were apparently light-weight, many of them built around what amounted to little more than jokes. And yet they seemed also to point to much deeper truths about the meaning (or perhaps lack of meaning) of existence itself. Indeed, some of his laconic, throw-away phrases seemed to carry the weight of entire philosophies. “So it goes,” was the catch-phrase of his great anti-war book, Slaughterhouse Five.
The same is true of his advice to aspiring writers. It seems so simple, so obvious – and yet it conceals a depth of experience and wisdom that is not at first apparent.

The past couple of days I’ve been involved in various meetings, emails, and phone calls regarding a video project featuring three former NFL players. Ever since reading Stephanie Palmer’s book Good in a Room back in 2008, there hasn’t been a meeting I’ve attended where I haven’t been aware of her basic principles. What I like about Stephanie’s work is the cohesiveness of her message– “How to sell yourself (and your ideas) and win over any audience.” You won’t be 100% successful, but that’s a good goal.

Seven things about me that I haven’t shared:
1. My computer technician came over and installed my new HP Printer/Scanner this evening. Yay.
2. This evening I finally purchased Final Draft. I am sooooo excited. It’s going to be a wonderful writing weekend.
3. After I transfer my radio play to FINAL DRAFT, I will be submitting it in the BBC’s International Radio Playwriting Competition 2012.
4. I would love to see more of my WordPress Friends participating in Three Word Wednesday.
5. I slipped on some water indoors while at the shopping mall this past Saturday and bruised my butt. No fun!
6. I’m taking my class swimming tomorrow. We will be doing this every Friday over the summer.
