The Secret Keeper has nominated mypenandme for 3 awards!

sunshine-blogger-award-2

Thank you very much to The Secret Keeper at http://thesecretkeeper.net/ for nominating mypenandme for these three lovely awards.  I am honoured.

As I’ve done in the past (prior to the Blog of The Year 2012 Award) I would like to nominate blogs I’ve recently come across that I’ve enjoyed very much.  I nominate these blogs for any or all of the three awards listed above.  My nominees are:

Now to the rules….
1.Display the award logo on your blog,
2.Link back to the person who nominated you,
3.State seven things about yourself,
4.Nominate fifteen other bloggers for this award and link to them,
5.Notify those bloggers of the nomination and the award’s requirements.

7 current things about me are:

1.  I wish I could find a website that lists many of the loglines from “produced” screenplays in one long list.  If you know of one, please let me know.

2.  My workplace is giving the staff four extra days off between December 24th and January 1st.  I am grateful and I am smiling.

3.  Tomorrow I am going Christmas shopping with hopes of completing it all.  If I end up downtown and if it’s not raining, I will take my camera to get some outdoor shots.

4.  Today I was looking at some of Andy Summers’ black and white photography online.  He is an amazing photographer.

5.  The next screenwriting book that I am going to read is:  The Screenwriter’s Bible; a complete guide to writing, formatting and selling your script 4th ed., expanded & updated, 3rd Silman-James Press ed – by David Trottier.

6.  Last summer, I managed to grow a beautiful avocado plant from a pit.  This week I set up three more pits in water, held in place by toothpicks.  I am crossing my fingers that this will again be successful.

7.  Every morning while sipping my morning coffee, I read blogs.  Every morning, I lose track of time and have to hurry like heck to get ready for work, afterward.  Lol…

Thank you for stopping by my blog.  I wish all of my readers and friends a happy weekend.

Best regards,

mypenandme

One Lovely Blog Award

Thank you to Joelle  Jean-Baptiste (JoelleWrites) at:  http://joellewrites.wordpress.com/ for nominating mypenandme for this award.

The suggested guidlelines for this award are as follows:

1. Link back to the person who nominated you

2. Post the award image to your page

3. Tell 7 facts about yourself

4. Nominate 15 other bloggers you admire, and let them know about the nomination

7 facts about me:

1.  I’m doing a theme on monarch migration with my nursery school class and my school age program.  Today I showed the nursery school children this delightful video by Lucas Miller:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01epJR2Dzzs

2.  One of the six books that I am currently reading is entitled, THINKERTOYS – a handbook of creative-thinking techniques by Michael Michalko.

3.  One of the hundreds of ideas mentioned in this book is to change your regular habits for a day, a week, a month, or whatever.  A few of the examples are:  Take a different route to work, listen to a different radio station, read a different newspaper, change your reading habits, take a bath instead of a shower, etc.  So…today, instead of reading in front of the computer monitor or on a sofa in the living room, I put a chair in the middle of the kitchen and read there.  The lighting was terrific, I stayed more alert and I read way more in one sitting than I normally would with no distractions.  It was wonderful.

4.  I told someone today, “I don’t know why I keep forgetting your name.  You have the same first name as my favourite artist and one of my favourite writers.”  He smiled.

5.  I have added more screenwriting links to my blogroll.

6.  Three of my favourite quotes are:

“Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.” – Pablo Picasso

“No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader.” – George Moore

“Why do writers write?  Because it isn’t there.” – Thomas Berger

7.  This isn’t about me, but Happy Thanksgiving to all of my friends and readers in the United States.

Now…I’m afraid that I do not have 15 nominees, but the links that I’m about to share with you, I’ve really enjoyed.  In some cases the links will take you to a particular article that I was reading when I clicked on, follow.

I am pretty certain that some of the above sites/blogs do not participate in awards, but some might.  At any rate I wanted to share these with you.

Thanks for taking the time to read.  I now have to print out and cut out a bunch of monarch butterflies to take to work with me, tomorrow.  I also have to crazy glue a toy camera back together.  Lol.  It’s 1:00 a.m.  I had better hurry it up.

With best regards,

Liebster Blog Award

Many thanks to Surrendered by Choice at:  http://surrenderedbychoice.wordpress.com/2012/11/10/first-nomination-thank-you-so-much/ for directing me to her blog today and nominating mypenandme for this award.  Erotic writing is not something I would normally read, but the one story that I did read was very well done.  🙂

To accept the award, I have some rules to follow

  • When one receives the award, one posts 11 random facts about oneself and answers the 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  • Pass the award onto 11 other blogs (while making sure one notifies the blogger that one nominated them!)
  • One writes up 11 NEW questions directed towards YOUR nominees.
  • One is not allowed to nominate the blog who nominated one’s own blog!
  • One pastes the award picture into ones blog. (You can google the image, there are plenty of them!)

11 random facts about me:

1.  One day, I will visit the Andy Warhol Museum.

2.  One day, I will get on a plane again and visit my soulmate’s grave site.

3.  One day, I will sign up for dancing lessons just for fun.

4.  One day, I will take a trip downstairs and try a beginner’s yoga class.

5.  One day, I will go downtown and visit the Toronto Public Library’s Reference Library.

6.  Some year, I will attend the Annual Nick Drake Gathering.

7.  One day soon, I will go online and purchase some of the music CDs that my friends have made.  I wish I could promise this to my many online friends who have written poetry books and novels, but there are too many of you.  Perhaps I can purchase a few once I have finished this screenplay.

8.  One day soon, I will catch up on my friends’ blogs on myspace.

9.  One day soon, I will begin to exercise regularly again.

10.  Perhaps over the winter, I will begin trying out some of the wonderful recipes that I have printed out from wordpress blogs.

11.  One day soon, I must begin my Christmas shopping–especially for those close friends who live out of the country.  But, for now…I must continue to work on the screenplay.

(12) My heart goes out to everyone who was affected by hurricane Sandy.

These are the questions asked by my nominee along with my answers:

1.  What was the best decision you ever made?

Leaving a man who obviously didn’t love me and carrying on until I found my soulmate.

2. What is the most important quality in a friend?

Honesty.  Without honesty, there is nothing there.

3. What is your least favorite household chore?

Washing out the bathtub.

4. What kind of toothpaste do you use?

Crest or Colgate–whichever one is on sale at the time.

5. What is one item on your personal “bucket list”?

Reaching a point where my screenplay requires no more rewriting–finishing it, having it professionally edited/critiqued, sending it out, not giving up until someone is interested.

6. What was your favorite subject in school?

music

7. Who would be most likely to call you at 2:00 am?

I have a few friends who call at this hour.  I stay up late so it doesn’t matter.

8. What would you buy if money was no object?

I would finance my own screenplay and hire the very best producers, directors and actors to see it through.

9. How many hours of television do you watch in a typical week?

not enough to mention–sometimes none.

10.  What is one book you can read over and over?

Oh gosh…I have too many books to get through at the moment to even consider that question.

11. What did you have for breakfast yesterday?

toast with orange marmalade and coffee.

My questions:

I pass on the same questions that I’ve just answered to my nominees.

“You Make My Day Award”

Many thanks to Wendell A. Brown at:  http://foreverpoetic.me/ for nominating mypenandme for this award and what a delightful award it is.

The Muppets bring back warm remembrances–especially of my grandfather.  My grandfather didn’t have much of a childhood.  Eventually he ran away from home because he didn’t think much of his new stepfather who wasn’t very nice to him.  He found employment in a sawmill and over the years by working hard and taking courses at night, he worked his way up to becoming a lumber inspector covering I think, most if not all of the Canadian Provinces and some of the Southern States as well.  He spent most of his life on the road, eating in restaurants, sleeping in motels, taking in the odd opera or symphony here and there…  Just prior to his retirement, my grandfather met my grandmother and married her five years before I was born.  My grandfather was always very good to me.  When we visited, he took me and his dog for long walks and taught me all about trees.  He built a house for my toy dog out of plywood and covered it with a vinyl covering.  He delighted in bringing out wind-up toys–cars and animals, and we played with them for what seemed like hours.  He made cute little baskets with handles by carving out walnut shells–purses for my dolls.  We read stories, played dominoes and checkers, but of all the things that we did together, grandpa’s favorite thing to do was watching cartoons on television–Popeye, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry, to name a few.  When the Muppets aired on television, I never saw my grandfather look happier.  He became alive.  He bacame a child again.  My grandmother, my mother and me all agreed that watching my grandfather watch the Muppets was more enjoyable than watching the Muppets themselves.

So…thank you Wendell A. Brown at:  http://foreverpoetic.me/ for this award.  It certainly brought a smile to my face.

Rules; First, one must thank the person who nominated them.

Second, you are required to answer the following 8 questions;

1) Why do you blog?
Answer:  I started out with a Music Myspace page to post some of my original songs.  It was there that I discovered blogs.  I began posting my poetry there and gosh was is ever awful, but I kept persisting.  I posted there for four years.  When the new Myspace came in there were many problems–then, I discovered WordPress.  🙂

2) If you were trapped on a desert island, what book, DVD, food, cartoon character, and childhood game would you bring?

I would bring one of Syd Field’s books or William C. Martell’s books about screenwriting, lots of blank journals and a box of pens.   Oops…I’m not answering the question properly.  Okay…The Bible and some Zen poetry.

DVD:  Either Richard Thompson–live from austin, Culture Club 20th Anniversary Concert or Sting–all this time

Food:  dried pasta (although my first thought was a lemon meringue pie)

Cartoon Character:  I wouldn’t have yet gone mad!  Okay…Scooby Doo.

Childhood Game:  a deck of playing cards–one has to be practical!

3) Share a funny joke or one-liner.

I’ll have to think on that one–will post later.

4) What is your favourite thing about your self?

I’m comfortable in my own skin.

5) What one word best describes you?

Hardworking and persistent – oops, that’s two.

6) If you could have a lifetime supply of any candy/candy bar, what would it be?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or Kit Kats

7) What fictional character do you relate to most?

Little Red Riding Hood – I’ve had to be brave, keep my chin up and walk through many forests during my lifetime…and I live in the city.

8) If you were to write the story of your life, what would you call it?

If I Met You Today, I’d Do It All Over Again.  Of course, this would be a lousy title, but definitely fitting.

And last but not least,  nominate 8 of your favourite blogs.

Well…Here are three blogs that I have recently discovered and liked.

Beautiful Blogger Award

Beautiful Blogger Award

Thank you to Thomas at:  http://astrangertoheavenandearth.com/ for nominating mypenandme for this award.

The rules for this award are:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2. Post the award image to your page
  3. Tell seven things about yourself
  4. Nominate up to 15 other bloggers and let them know

7 things about me are:

1.  I had three hours’ sleep last night.  I meant to have a nap sometime during the day but the day slipped by and then the evening did as well.  Now it is 12:31 a.m.

2.  I went to the bank and the grocery store very early this morning because we were expecting rain.  I wish I had brought my camera.  All of a sudden out of the blue there were more than a hundred pigeons that had gathered all around me and everyone else at the bus stop.  One had a pure white head, very unusual eyes and walked as if it were a celebrity among the others.  It looked almost like a ghost pigeon, an alien pigeon–something out of a movie.  The rest of its coloring looked like all the other pigeons, similar to the ones that I posted last weekend.  From now on, I will always take my camera to that particular grocery store.

3.  It ended up being a very dark day with rain falling late in the afternoon.  I made a pot of soup from scratch as I do every weekend.   This week I used simmering steak, carrots, celery, cabbage, green beans, onions, kidney beans, red beets, spinach, potatoes, zucchini, fresh garlic, tomato sauce, parsley, Italian spices, basil, seasoning salt and black pepper.  I just had a bowl a few minutes ago and the flavor was wonderful.

4.  I talked to Rusky in Australia a short while ago.  He is organizing a collab involving several poets and invited me to participate.  I will look forward to that.

5.  I was looking at some poetry that I wrote about a year or so ago.  I was writing so much better then or maybe it was just a combination of anger and heartbreak doing the writing–not me at all.  Maybe I just had something to say then…or maybe my screenwriting has caused me to write with a different perspective.  I don’t know…

6.  As it nears December, I’m going to go downtown and take photographs of the holiday-dressed windows at our major department stores.  I’ll post them here when I do.

7.  I suppose I ought to get back to my screenplay now, or at least back to thinking about it.  It’s a completely different screenplay than it was a few months prior.  I have this stack of newspaper articles that I have to go through–all articles that gave me ideas that I wanted to return to later–ideas that I could perhaps implement somehow.  I have to do that yet, and finish Steven Smith’s book.  I’m only halfway through it–a good book, though.  His first run was only thirty copies.  That in itself makes me want to read it.

4 facts about today:

1.  This morning I woke up two hours earlier than usual so I could attend a local annual rummage sale starting at 9:00 a.m. and hopefully find some interesting books there.

2.  I missed the bus because the traffic lights had an overextended interest in the color, red.

3.  When I finally arrived, there were no books there.  I was gently told that this year, they are saving all of their book donations for a spring book sale.

4.  I departed from the rummage sale grinning from ear to ear, holding two shopping bags filled with mostly new or almost new games, puzzles and learning materials.  The total cost:  $11.00.   I LOVE GETTING GOOD DEALS!  The children where I work will be delighted.
