retro places – for 3WW

when i think of it now

there must have been a lethal hinge between us

offering only a limited angle of rotation and need

stray dog coughs up a dinner bell

a stopped bell

a tarnished bell

turns around and heads home

as time passes

i stand outside

my faithful shadow appearing taller

perhaps it’s the straight posture

the bold song on lips

the cold knots, discarded

the sharpened pencil

in wooden coat

writing and rewriting,

“the mind matters–just as much as the heart”

  1. lethal hinge – unfortunately. I understand this quite well.

  2. Berowne says:

“The mind matters.” A thought for all bloggers…

  3. oldegg says:

It is good to have a relationship with your shadow, like seeing, feeling and talking to yourself in action. Yes, the mind is much more reliable than the heart which is such a fickle creature.

  4. Jae Rose says:

That dog and its bell rings and echoes through this unsettling background presence..maybe mind and heart are as one..jae

  5. I read this lots – found something different every time x

  6. 4joy says:

we are often ruled by our emotions, which are in our marvelous minds….

  7. rallentanda says:

Well at least you have a heart…you can’t create without one…all the poetry of the mind does not make it sing from the page.

  8. Ken W. Simpson says:

A weirdly creative piece with some strange – far out – surreal allusions.

  9. How true ~ the mind matters just as much as the heart ~ in writers the mind never rests. I find reading positive and uplifting blogs keeps my mind fit, well and working!

  10. I like “faithful shadow appearing taller.”
